Desert Minerals has caught our attention after a recent rally more than doubled its share price from $0.34 in early June to $0.74 on 16 October 2026. Behind the momentum sits a developing US lithium project and a second gold exploration opportunity. The question is whether its growing asset base can translate into commercial value.
The numbers investors should notice
- $0.74: Closing share price on 16 October, up approximately 118% since early June.
- 264.9 million tonnes: Maiden lithium resource at Scotty, Nevada.
- 1,006 ppm: Average lithium grade.
- 51%: Desert Minerals’ interest in Scotty.
- $4.05 million: Cash and cash equivalents at 30 June 2026.
Two projects, two opportunities
Desert Minerals is advancing its Scotty Lithium Project, a clay-hosted deposit in Nevada. After completing a sonic drilling programme in June, the company announced its maiden mineral resource estimate in August, establishing a foundation for further exploration and technical assessment.
The resource comprises 139.8 million tonnes classified as Indicated and 125.1 million tonnes classified as Inferred. An additional exploration target of 218 million to 327 million tonnes offers potential upside, although this remains a target rather than a defined resource.
The company is also pursuing gold exploration at its Mt Monger project in Western Australia. In August, it commenced drilling at the Providence prospect, adding another potential source of exploration upside.
What stands out to us is the combination of a defined lithium resource and an ongoing gold exploration programme. However, neither opportunity has yet demonstrated that it can generate sustainable operating revenue.
What could change the outlook?
The lithium resource establishes scale, but grade, processing costs, recovery rates and development capital will determine its economic potential. Meanwhile, exploration success at Providence would need to be translated into a commercially meaningful resource.
Desert Minerals reported a net loss of $850,049 for FY2026. Its cash position provides a starting point for further work, but ongoing exploration and future technical studies could require additional funding.
Investor Insight: What is the rally pricing in?
We would focus on metallurgical results and economic studies at Scotty, alongside drilling results at Providence. These milestones could establish whether the company’s assets justify greater market expectations. Further exploration alone is less compelling if it does not improve the prospects for economic development.
