Estrella Resources (ASX: ESR) Secures 27,000-Tonne Manganese Sale as Laleno Copper-Gold Drilling Advances

Estrella Resources (ASX: ESR) has secured a binding agreement to sell 27,000 tonnes of manganese ore from its Ira Miri Project in Timor-Leste, marking an important step towards generating its first mineral sales receipts.

The 30 October 2026 agreement follows government export authorisation and comes as the company prepares maiden drilling at its emerging Laleno Dome copper-gold prospect.

However, with shipment arrangements still to be completed and exploration expenditure continuing across several projects, the central question is whether Estrella can convert its expanding mineral opportunities into sustainable commercial revenue.

Key numbers

  • 27,000 tonnes: Manganese ore covered by the binding sales agreement with Australian trading company Repusource.
  • 49.38% manganese: Average grade of 4,984 tonnes of high-grade material within the existing Ira Miri stockpile.
  • 533 million tonnes: Updated Werumata Limestone Mineral Resource, including 274 million tonnes classified as Indicated.
  • $2.85 million: Cash reserves at 30 September 2026.
  • $1.65 million: September-quarter exploration and evaluation expenditure.

Binding manganese agreement establishes a pathway towards revenue

Estrella's agreement with Australian trading company Repusource represents a significant commercial milestone for its Ira Miri Manganese Project.

The binding contract covers 27,000 tonnes of manganese ore, with the buyer entitled to adjust the quantity by approximately 5%.

Repusource supplies manganese products to processing customers across the Asia-Pacific region, providing access to established trading and distribution channels.

Pricing has been agreed at prevailing market rates, subject to quality adjustments following independent product testing.

However, the specific commercial terms remain confidential, preventing a reliable calculation of expected sales revenue or profit.

Under the agreement, Estrella is responsible for loading the material free on board at anchorage near Tenu Port.

Repusource will arrange onward shipping to the destination market.

Shipment is targeted within approximately 30 to 45 days following completion of the relevant contractual and letter-of-credit arrangements.

Payment is due within three business days after the buyer receives the required commercial documents.

The company may require an irrevocable documentary letter of credit from an agreed bank to support payment arrangements.

Importantly, title to the ore remains with Estrella until full payment is received.

Although the agreement is binding, contract execution does not constitute recognised revenue or cash already collected.

The transaction covers a single market-appraisal bulk sample, with no obligation for Repusource to make additional purchases.

Ira Miri faces its first commercial shipment test

The manganese sale forms part of Estrella's market-appraisal programme rather than an established commercial mining operation.

Estrella holds a 70% interest in the Estrella Murak Rai joint venture, with its Timorese partner holding the remaining 30%.

The contracted 27,000-tonne quantity represents the entire joint venture parcel rather than Estrella's attributable share.

The surveyed stockpile contains approximately 27,371 tonnes of manganese-bearing material.

Within this inventory, approximately 4,984 tonnes of high-grade material averages 49.38% manganese.

However, that grade applies to the identified high-grade portion and should not be assumed to represent the average grade of the entire contracted shipment.

The material was extracted under a January 2026 government authorisation permitting up to 30,000 tonnes for market appraisal.

On 28 October, Estrella received government export approval, enabling preparations for overseas shipment to progress.

Causeway construction and stockpile transfers are underway to support loading operations.

Successful shipment could provide valuable information about customer acceptance, product quality, transport costs and actual realised pricing.

However, export approval for the market-appraisal parcel does not constitute authorisation for ongoing commercial mining.

Further sales would require additional commercial arrangements, while continued production would remain subject to applicable development and regulatory approvals.

Laleno Dome introduces a potentially larger copper-gold opportunity

While Ira Miri offers a possible near-term revenue source, Laleno Dome could provide Estrella's more substantial long-term exploration opportunity.

The company has identified copper mineralisation associated with hydrothermally altered porphyritic intrusive rocks.

Rock-chip samples from intrusive material returned copper grades of up to 0.66%.

Separate selected mineralised specimens returned substantially higher values, including 60.34% copper and 33.22% copper.

Gold rock-chip assays also returned grades of up to 1.3 grams per tonne.

These results demonstrate the presence of copper and gold mineralisation within the broader prospect area.

However, the exceptional high-grade copper samples were selectively collected and should not be treated as representative of an established deposit.

Geophysical surveys have also identified conductive anomalies that support further investigation of a potential porphyry-style copper-gold system.

Following the September quarter, Estrella approved maiden drilling and commenced access preparations.

A helicopter-borne MobileMT and magnetic survey has also commenced to support geological interpretation and target generation.

These activities could help determine whether mineralisation extends beyond surface exposures into a continuous geological system.

However, Laleno Dome remains an early-stage exploration prospect without a drill-defined Mineral Resource.

Successful drilling will be necessary before its scale, grade continuity and potential commercial significance can be assessed.

Werumata resource revision improves geological confidence

Estrella has also advanced the Werumata Limestone Project through an updated Mineral Resource Estimate announced in October.

The revised resource totals approximately 533 million tonnes.

This comprises 274 million tonnes classified as Indicated and 259 million tonnes classified as Inferred.

Approximately 51% of the resource is now within the higher-confidence Indicated category, compared with the previous estimate that was entirely classified as Inferred.

The improved classification provides a stronger geological foundation for future technical and economic studies.

However, the revised estimate also represents a reduction from the previously reported total Mineral Resource of 621 million tonnes.

The company attributed the decline primarily to revised bulk-density assumptions rather than a reduction in the modelled mineralised volume.

Consequently, the development is more accurately described as an improvement in resource confidence rather than an increase in total limestone resources.

The project's commercial potential will depend on product specifications, customer demand, processing requirements, transport infrastructure and development costs.

Further studies are required before its economic contribution can be established.

September cash position highlights exploration funding requirements

Estrella finished the September 2026 quarter with approximately $2.85 million in cash.

Exploration and evaluation expenditure totalled approximately $1.65 million during the period.

This illustrates the financial demands of advancing the company's manganese, copper-gold and limestone projects simultaneously.

However, exploration expenditure should not be treated as the company's entire quarterly cash burn because administration, financing and other cash movements also affect liquidity.

The company has also agreed to divest its Spargoville Nickel Rights for consideration valued at approximately $3 million.

The proposed transaction involves the issue of 20 million Astral Resources shares at a deemed price of $0.15 per share, subject to completion conditions.

These securities represent potential investment value rather than cash already received.

Their eventual realisable value will depend on completion, market prices and any applicable trading restrictions.

With no established recurring commercial mining revenue, conventional earnings multiples remain unsuitable for valuing Estrella.

Its investment case depends primarily on exploration success, project economics, commercial execution and future funding requirements.

Additional equity financing could eventually become necessary if exploration expenditure accelerates before meaningful operating cash flow emerges.

Insight: Manganese sales could provide an early test of commercial execution

What stands out to us is Estrella's opportunity to combine near-term manganese commercialisation with a potentially more substantial copper-gold exploration programme in Timor-Leste.

The binding 27,000-tonne sales agreement provides a route towards the company's first mineral sales receipts, although shipment, final product pricing and payment collection remain outstanding.

We believe successful delivery could offer valuable evidence of customer acceptance, logistics costs and the practical requirements of exporting Ira Miri manganese.

However, the agreement covers a single market-appraisal parcel rather than an established recurring revenue stream.

Laleno Dome presents a different opportunity, with porphyry-style mineralisation and conductive geophysical targets supporting further drilling.

The market may be overlooking the distinction between a contracted bulk sample and an untested exploration target.

Our assessment would strengthen if Estrella demonstrated profitable manganese shipments, secured additional commercial agreements and delivered drilling results supporting a credible copper-gold discovery.

The decisive next measures will be actual manganese sales receipts and verified Laleno Dome drilling results.

The verdict: Commercial progress meets exploration and funding risks

Estrella has achieved a meaningful commercial milestone through its binding manganese sales agreement while advancing copper-gold and limestone opportunities in Timor-Leste.

The 27,000-tonne Ira Miri transaction provides a potential pathway towards initial mineral sales receipts, supported by government export approval and established trading arrangements.

However, the agreement relates to a single market-appraisal parcel rather than recurring commercial production.

Shipment execution, final product pricing, logistics costs and payment collection remain important near-term risks.

Meanwhile, Laleno Dome offers potentially significant copper-gold exploration upside, although its geological scale and economic viability remain unproven.

The Werumata resource revision provides improved geological confidence but does not yet establish a commercially viable development opportunity.

Estrella's limited cash reserves and continuing exploration expenditure also warrant attention.

Investors should monitor the completion of the manganese shipment, receipt of customer payments, progress towards Laleno Dome drilling and the company's quarterly cash position.

Further resource development, commercial agreements and financing arrangements will determine whether these opportunities can support sustainable growth.

For shareholders, Estrella provides exposure to a combination of near-term mineral commercialisation and early-stage copper-gold exploration.

However, the investment case remains dependent on operational execution and disciplined capital management.

The decisive challenge is converting its expanding mineral portfolio into verified discoveries, profitable commercial transactions and a sustainable funding position without excessive shareholder dilution.
