ReNerve Limited is beginning to demonstrate the commercial potential of its medical technology portfolio, with September-quarter sales reaching a record $584,000 and monthly sales exceeding $200,000 for the first time. More importantly, the growth is increasingly supported by repeat customer orders, an expanding US hospital network and new international markets. With several next-generation products progressing towards commercialisation, the company is entering an important phase in its development.
Key numbers
- $584,000: Record Q1 FY27 sales, up 774% year on year.
- 176%: Quarterly sales growth compared with the June 2026 quarter.
- 100+: US hospitals with approvals across ReNerve's product portfolio.
- 25: US distributors supporting commercial expansion, alongside two direct salespeople.
- $1.62 million: Cash and cash equivalents at 30 September 2026, with access to an additional funding facility of up to $5 million.
Repeat orders suggest ReNerve's US strategy is gaining traction
The strongest development is the acceleration in commercial sales, particularly in the US, where ReNerve is building distribution and direct sales capabilities for its peripheral nerve repair and tissue-based surgical products.
Its NervAlign Nerve Cuff is designed to protect repaired nerves following surgery, while the Empliq portfolio includes deep dermal and amniotic tissue products used in reconstructive procedures and wound healing.
The September quarter demonstrated that the company's commercial strategy is beginning to deliver tangible results. Sales reached $584,000, compared with $211,000 in the June quarter, and management reported that September monthly sales exceeded $200,000 for the first time.
Importantly, the November investor presentation highlighted that September sales were predominantly repeat orders. This provides encouraging evidence that existing customers are returning to purchase products rather than commercial activity relying entirely on initial placements.
ReNerve now has more than 100 US hospital approvals across its portfolio, supported by 25 distributors and two direct salespeople. Five additional hospital approvals were secured during September.
International expansion is also progressing. NervAlign received marketing approval in Indonesia, while the company completed its first clinical cases in Hong Kong and Malaysia. These developments provide additional distribution opportunities across Asia-Pacific, although the financial contribution of these markets will depend on subsequent adoption and repeat purchasing.
Next-generation nerve repair technology offers another growth avenue
Beyond its existing products, ReNerve is developing technologies targeting more complex peripheral nerve injuries.
The NervAlign Nerve Guide Matrix is particularly interesting because it is designed to provide an alternative to conventional nerve grafting, potentially eliminating the need to harvest nerve tissue from another part of the patient's body.
A preclinical sheep study involving 4cm nerve defects produced encouraging 12-month findings, including evidence of sensory and motor nerve signals across the repaired area. However, the study involved only six animals, and an inflammatory finding in one implant requires further investigation.
The regulatory pathway is also progressing, with the US Food and Drug Administration providing guidance on the proposed preclinical evaluation programme.
Elsewhere, the NervAlign Nerve Conduit range has completed an initial manufacturing test run, with commercial manufacturing targeted for the first half of calendar 2027.
These developments broaden the potential product portfolio and provide several opportunities to build on the company's existing commercial relationships.
Clinical progress could provide an important catalyst in 2027
Another significant development is the Align clinical study, which is approaching completion of recruitment.
The definitive study involves approximately 120 patients in each of two cohorts and is designed to evaluate the clinical benefits of ReNerve's technology.
Preliminary results are expected to be presented at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons conference in March 2027, with full results expected during 2027.
An earlier interim study involving 13 NervAlign patients and 10 control patients reported pain scores improving from 7.1 to 0.4 in the treatment group, compared with 7.1 to 3.3 in the control group. The reported difference was statistically significant.
While the earlier findings are encouraging, the larger Align study will be important in establishing whether these benefits can be demonstrated across a broader patient population.
Revenue growth is encouraging, but cash generation remains the next challenge
FY26 revenue reached $510,357, representing 88% growth on the previous financial year. The September quarter alone exceeded the entire FY26 revenue result.
However, the company recorded a FY26 net loss of $5.57 million, highlighting the investment required to develop its products and establish commercial operations.
During Q1 FY27, customer receipts reached $419,000, while net operating cash outflow was $1.11 million. Research and development expenditure declined to $165,000 from $752,000 in the preceding quarter.
ReNerve ended September with $1.62 million in cash and secured a convertible funding facility of up to $5 million from RiverFort, including an initial drawdown that generated approximately $1.36 million in net proceeds.
Management estimates that the combined funding availability provides approximately 4.5 quarters of funding capacity. However, the undrawn facility is conditional, while its convertible structure introduces repayment obligations and potential dilution.
The priority now is to sustain sales growth, improve cash conversion and progressively reduce dependence on external funding.
Insight: ReNerve is moving beyond product development towards commercial execution
What stands out to us is the combination of record sales, predominantly repeat orders and more than 100 US hospital approvals. These developments suggest ReNerve is beginning to establish a commercial foundation rather than simply developing promising medical technology. The expanding product pipeline provides additional growth opportunities, while the Align clinical study could strengthen its clinical proposition. We believe the next important test is whether quarterly sales can continue growing towards a level that materially reduces the $1.11 million operating cash outflow.
